Vukani-Ubuntu has established eight community development projects in four provinces of South Africa since 1999. Vukani is a registered non-profit organisation whose projects ensure sustainable development through job-creation and entrepreneurship development in the jewellery industry. It offers a national three-year diploma in jewellery design and manufacturing and upon completion of the course students are placed in meaningful employment.

Students are drawn from the community, and provided with practical and theoretical training within a Production Hive, enabling them to apply their acquired knowledge and skills effectively. Students produce and design jewelry according to their own artistic skills, and are provided with the infrastructure, environment and materials needed. All training is provided is free, and more than 200 students have received training. The organisation is funded by government and through corporate contributions.

Since 1999 Vukani-Ubuntu has established the following community development projects: Atteridgeville Jewellery Project (Gauteng), Virginia Jewellery School (Free State),

Galeshewe Stone-Cutting Project (N. Cape), Umjindi Jewellery Project (Mpumalanga), Umjindi Exclusive Jewellery Design & Manufacturing (Mpumalanga), Galeshewe Jewellery Project (N.Cape).

Profits made are fed back into the project to assist in its sustainability and maintenance of skills development. Students also derive income by using the workshop to produce sellable products.
